In this training course, you will learn what digital accessibility means according to WCAG 2.2. You will gain in-depth expertise on assistive technologies, testing procedures and relevant laws.

You will be introduced to a systematic testing procedure that you can use to ensure that your products comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2), the Barrierefreie Informationstechnikverordnung (BITV 2.0) and the Barrierefreiheits-stärkungsgesetz (BFSG).
This course will prepare you optimally for certification as an 'A4Q Certified Professional in Digital Accessibility'.

• Fundamentals of digital accessibility according to WCAG 2.2
• Principles of accessibility
• Types of impairments and suitable assistive technologies
• Legal framework (DACH, EU, international), with a distinction between mandatory and voluntary regulations
• Strategies for anchoring accessible development in your company
• Preparing, conducting and evaluating digital accessibility tests.
• Overview of tools for testing digital accessibility, both manual and automated.

This course has a clear focus on the practical implementation of digital accessibility in testing, strategic decisions and embedding it in the company:

You will gain in-depth knowledge of:

Digital accessibility in general

• You understand the four principles of WCAG: perceivability, operability, understandability and robustness.
• You are familiar with the compliance levels (A, AA, AAA) and specific requirements for visual, auditory, motoric and cognitive impairments.
• You know how to exploit the potential of standard software, how assistive technologies work for improving digital accessibility such as screen readers, voice output, keyboard navigation, etc. and where they can be used effectively.
• You learn how digital accessibility improves usability for all people.

Legal basis & standards

• You will gain an overview of the most important laws and guidelines, e.g. BFSG, EU directives (EAA), BITV 2.0, etc.
• You will learn how to ensure and document legal compliance, both nationally and internationally.

Practical application of the WCAG 2.2 guideline underlying the BFSG

• You can check the WCAG success criteria using the test steps in the BITV test reference and thus verify the implementation of BITV 2.0 and WCAG 2.2.
• You will learn about various tools for performing tests.
• You will be able to document the results of your tests.
• You will develop strategies for continuously improving the digital accessibility of your products.

You will embed accessibility in your organisation

• You build up internal expertise and responsibilities for digital accessibility.
• You prioritise the removal of barriers efficiently.
• You promote a common understanding of digital participation within your team.
• You ensure legal compliance when designing accessible digital products.
• You increase the inclusivity and user-friendliness of your digital offerings.
• You build competence in digital accessibility, especially in testing, but also in development, design, project management and corporate governance.

Basic software testing and/or development skills are an advantage, but not essential.
