More practice, more content, more knowledge: imbus Academy is the first and so far the only IT professional development training provider accredited in accordance with the new ISTQB® Certified Tester Advanced Level syllabus for all of the three modules

Möhrendorf, May 2009 – The requirements for the quality of software tests are becoming more and more demanding. “That means that more and more is also expected of the testing companies and their employees,” explains the Manager of the imbus Academy, Arne Becher. That’s why he consistently ensures that all course participants at the training facilities that he runs are able to acquire the very latest certificates on the basis of the most recent syllabi. As a consequence, the imbus Academy is the first and currently the only training center that has received accreditation from the German Testing Board to provide training courses in accordance with the new syllabus ISTQB® Certified Tester Advanced Level in German-speaking areas for all of the three Advanced Tester profiles. From now on, the imbus Academy is accepting registrations for ISTQB® Certified Tester Advanced Level training courses that will be taking place throughout Germany.

The new and revised syllabus for the ISTQB® Certified Tester Advanced Level is clearly focused on practical work. “With examples of best practice, the new Advanced Testers get an extensive insight into practical applications and requirements of software testing,” explains Becher. The new, more extensive syllabus provides the prospective Certified testers with more subjects and more details. With regard to content, there is an extremely clear distinction between the new Advanced Level and the old syllabus. The demarcation between Advanced Level and Foundation Level has also been more clearly defined. The new syllabus includes more subjects and aspects and, at the same time, distinguishes between three different Advanced Testers: Test Managers, Test Analysts, and Technical Test Analysts. The training courses for all three profiles are carried out in the same way and have the same standing. To meet the demands of the participants for individuality and flexibility, imbus has implemented the new syllabus in a building-block system.

The Certified Tester Advanced Level is intended for the further qualification of testing staff within enterprises. The prerequisite for taking part in this qualification process is the ISTQB® Foundation Level. It is not until Advanced Level that a differentiation is made between the three test profiles – Test Manager, Test Analyst, and Technical Test Analyst. The ISTQB® certificate has proven its value on numerous occasions in the daily work of testers. “During their professional development training, the testers don’t just learn the theory about the craft of software testing, they also find out how to apply their knowledge in practical situations,” confirms Tilo Linz, President of the German Testing Board. That means that the testing knowledge is not confined to theoretical ivory towers. The testers go through far more practical scenarios, which show them practical applications in a much more targeted way. The schema for the qualification of specialists and managers who work in the field of testing or are involved with testing in the course of their daily work is internationally recognized. As well as this world wide recognition and global reach, the internationality of the Certified Tester program provides one further benefit: The specialized language. “It is multinational projects in particular that make it absolutely necessary to have uniformity, so as to create a valid standard for the approach to the projects,” explains Linz. The specialized language of the Certified Tester program is the basis for the exchange of ideas and information at a global level.

Software testers are today facing huge challenges: Pressure for innovation, globalization, increases in effectiveness and efficiency, and much more. With respect to these demands, software testers have to acquire corresponding key qualifications, for example for quality assurance, process improvement, risk management, test planning, or test controlling. In addition, they need to demonstrate communication skills that they can use at management level just as well as in a team.

To face up to this sign of the times by providing a uniform standard, the International Testing Qualifications Board introduced the ISTQB® Certified Tester program. The task of the German Testing Board is to oversee the quality of the ISTQB® Certified Tester program in Germany.
