Where can I find the course dates for the imbus Academy?

The current scheduling of our courses can always be found on the “Course Overview” page of our website. On request, we will gladly draw up a list of selected dates that match your exact requirements. We can also structure dates for workshops and in-house training courses in accordance with a request you have submitted.

How can I register for a course at the imbus Academy?

Most course participants register on our website page “Course Overview”. Please fill in the registration form that appears when you click on the symbol that is situated to the right of a particular course date. Alternatively, you can, of course, send us your training course requirements by e-mail, post, or fax (not requiring any special form). Please remember to provide your contact details, so that we can get in touch with you should it be necessary to complete any missing details for your registration, and to give us the chance to provide you with further information about the training dates you have requested.

Is it possible to get the training courses (partly) financed through a grant, e.g. from the German Job Center (Arbeitsagentur)?

Our training courses are not certified with the Job Center (Arbeitsagentur) in Germany, and that means there is no registration number for grants. Therefore, it is, unfortunately, not possible to apply for grants such as training vouchers or other regular subsidies provided by the Job Center to support training activities.

A grant for training courses without such certification is still awarded in exceptional cases on the basis of extremely strict guidelines. The basis for a so-called “special case approval” is § 85 of the Social Security Code, Third Book (SGB III) in combination with § 12 Recognition and Approval Regulations – Professional Development Training (AZWV) or with § 46 SGB III. You should be able to get more information about the current options at the Job Centre.

Other possibilities to receive aid:

It may be worthwhile to search for more information e.g. via internet:  there are various possibilities, like additional vacation or some financial aid via the :

Training vouchers in North Rhine Westphalia: With the “Training Voucher North Rhine Westphalia”, the state government is subsidizing participation in vocational professional development training. The target group consists of employees based in North Rhine Westphalia who have so far had little or no participation in professional development training courses. Companies based in North Rhine Westphalia with a maximum of 250 employees can receive training vouchers, as can the employees of such companies. A free consultancy session is obligatory. The training voucher covers up to half of the course fees, up to a maximum of 500 euros per voucher.

In connection with all the various options for financial assistance, it is important to emphasize that the ISTQB® Certified Tester should be seen as a further qualification for specialists that will be of great significance to the participant when he applies for a new job to restart his career because this qualification has worldwide quality assurance, global reach and attractiveness for the employment market. Jobseekers or employers whose employees are, for example, on short-time working should definitely take the time to find out all the relevant information, and should talk to their contact persons at the German Job Center about the applicable programs.

Why can’t training providers offer their own certification exams for their accredited courses?

One part of the quality assurance concept of the ISTQB® is that providers for accredited courses are not allowed to be the certification centers for the applicable examinations. That’s why the applicable exam that we organize for you on completion of your course is purchased from an external approved provider for examinations. For this reason, imbus has no influence on the price structure and billing for the exam. We are also unable to take any action with regard to the issuing of certificates and the corresponding postal arrangements. We are glad to receive any enquiries with regard to this matter, which we will then forward to the applicable provider for the examinations.

Questions about the Contents of the ISTQB® Certified Tester

Where will I find more information about the contents of the ISTQB® Certified Tester?

Syllabi and the glossary can be downloaded from the download section of the GTB.

Is it possible to combine partial certifications that have been attained in accordance with the old and the new Advance Level syllabi?

Officially there is no problem at all. You will receive the title “Full Advanced Level” and it does not make any difference if you have taken individual exam papers based on different syllabus versions. However, with regard to contents, we recommend that you study the two modules Functional Tester (new name “Test Analyst”) and Technical Tester (new name “Technical Test Analyst”) in accordance with the same syllabus version as there have been amendments to the contents of these two modules. It could be the case here that if you mix the old and the new syllabi, you could cover the same material twice or miss some material completely.

Questions about the certification exams for the ISTQB®-standard*

Are ISTQB® certificates still valid if they refer to the old syllabi?

Yes, all of your previously issued certificates are valid without time limitation.

What are the prerequisites for enrollment in the ISTQB® exams, and how do I prove that these prerequisites are fulfilled?

For the ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level exam, there are no prerequisites. If you would like to take the exam for the ISTQB® Certified Tester Advanced Level, you have to prove that you have certification at Foundation Level and additional practical experience as a tester. You can find the regulations governing how to provide proof and other details by taking a look at the enrollment form for the examination, which you can get from the applicable certification center or from us when you receive your confirmation of participation in one of our courses.

How do I enroll for an exam?

If you would like to take an exam on completion of one of our courses, you can make your enrollment using the enrollment form that we send you together with the registration confirmation for your course booking.
Please note that registration for a course does NOT automatically lead to enrollment for an examination
To be sure that all participants who wish to take the exam have already made their enrollment, our instructors always take the opportunity at the beginning of the course to ask these participants if they have already enrolled. If applicable, you should also check with your own training department whether enrollment for the exam is desired, and if it has already been taken care of. If you would like to take an exam without attending a preparation course directly beforehand, you can contact an approved certification center directly. You can find these centers on the website of the GTB.

Is it possible to enroll for an examination without having previously attended a preparation course?

In principle, there is nothing to stop you from taking the exam without having attended a preparation course, provided that you make your own preparations through self-study.
However, we only organize exams on completion of one of our courses. Please understand that we can only offer exam enrollment without booking a training course with us in such case that that the limited number of available places for participation in the exam have not been taken up by course participants.

How can I find out about exam dates?

We forward your enquiries about exam dates to a certification center in accordance with the nature of you enquiry. That means that you have complete certainty about dates to help with your planning, and that you receive a large number of possible dates without dependence on our courses. Should you be unable to find a convenient date, feel free to get back in contact with us.

You can find out about additional exam dates at the certification centers of the GTB.

How much does it cost to take the exams?

You can find out the prices for individual examination services by taking a look at the websites of the examination providers. Please understand that we do not wish to publish these prices ourselves.

When will I receive my certificate?

Once the examination fee has been paid, the examination provider will send you your certificate after a processing time of four weeks at the most.
Should it be the case that you have not received your certificate at the end of this period of time, please get in touch with us. We are glad to make enquiries on your behalf.
Alternatively, you can also get in touch with the certification center directly (you can find this on the enrollment form for your exam).

What procedure is followed for the exam and what is the structure of the exam?

All questions in the exam are multiple choice. The individual questions are weighted according to their complexity, and are given a corresponding index. The examination material is divided into various specialized areas, for which questions are selected and assembled on a random basis. In the course of this procedure, a fixed defined value is used for the index points per specialized area. The duration of the examination is currently one hour for Foundation Level and three hours for the Advanced Level.
